Mission:
Are UU Awake will serve as a Racial Justice PAC (Political Action Committee) within the Unitarian Universalist faith. We were formed for the purpose of addressing issues related to racial injustice and privilege within the Unitarian Universalist faith. The group will plan and execute activities that will move forward the following general objectives:
1) Increase awareness within individual Unitarian Universalist Congregations regarding privilege, racism & racial injustice.
2) Schedule & hold Racism Jubilee training in every district every year with full ministerial support.
3) Hold the UUA accountable to provide swift and concrete support for racial justice movements and activities in this country.
4) Add an 8th Principle to the Unitarian Universalist Faith as follows:
“We, the member congregations of the Unitarian Universalist Association, covenant to affirm and promote: Journeying toward spiritual wholeness by building a diverse multicultural Beloved Community that accountably dismantles racism and other oppressions in ourselves and our institutions.
As a group we will work to create curriculum and resources to assist UU’s in bringing our message to their congregations and pushing forward each of these general objectives in our communities & in our larger faith.
